Trail Volunteers Needed

Publicity in the local paper has recruited a few trail workers from around Asheville, but it has not produced the consistency we need. If you can join one of the work crews Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or an occasional Saturday, call Misha Lazer at 259-9729 or email him at mishalazer@aol.com. You are not only needed and wanted, it’s fun, good exercise, and cheaper than a health club.

CMC Member Roster Enclosed

Even as you read this, a new Task Force is considering a revision to the way our various databases are structured. Currently we do not even have phone numbers for our members or know who can be reached by email. A duplicate of the current roster is available on the club’s website (see masthead) at a password protected page.

In Memoriam – Jeanette Dunn

Wife of long-time CMC member and Distinguished Service Award winner, Ed Dunn, died on Jan. 7, 2002, following a brief illness. Jeanette Dunn hiked with the club for many years in the 1970s and was well loved by all. Originally from Batavia, N.Y., she traveled to the territory of Alaska to work during the late 1940s. There she met and married Ed, her husband of 51 years.

Wednesday Hikers Get

New Scheduler

Phil Smith Fund Growing

So far, ten people have contributed nearly $1,000 to the fund, but more is needed for our maintenance projects. Mail your donation to CMC Treasurer, Box 68, Asheville, 28802.

Multi-Club Meet in VA

This year’s site is at the Forest Service’s Hurricane Gap Campground near Abingdon, VA, and is scheduled for Fri. 8/30 thru Mon. 9/2. For more information, contact Kitty Farley, (276) 676-3040.

New Let’s Go co-editor announced

After several years of diligent editing, Jan Lounsbury has retired from her duties and new member Ginger Graziano has graciously agreed to take up the slack. In an effort to economize, we are trying to reduce the size of the newsletter from six to four pages.

Trail information

Except for the Wednesday schedule, all hikes meet at the Westgate Shopping Center unless otherwise noted. If you are allergic to yellow jackets, bring your allergy medications. They are most aggressive in late summer and early fall. For a description of the hike difficulty codes, see the hike ratings description at the beginning of the Wednesday hikes.
