Help Needed - Build a piece of the MST

Reserve November 4, 2006 to build another piece of the MST!

Your help will be appreciated to continue the extension of the MST south of Balsam Gap to Soho Gap.
Please reserve November 4, 2006 for this trail work.

Meet at Moose Café next to the Farmers Market @ 9:00 AM for car pooling or at BRP mile marker 447. If you have tools bring them if not we will supply them. Please invite your friends and pass the word on to hiking clubs in your area.

We guarantee a beautiful day, nice and cool ( we will be above 4,200 ft.) Perfect Fall work day. A great day for the entire family to enjoy the out doors and give back a little for all the wonderful days we have enjoyed hiking.

CMC Volunteers Honored by Blue Ridge Parkway

CMC as an organization, and 19 long-time CMC volunteers, were honored at the annual Blue Ridge Parkway Fish Fry on October 20. See the pictures.

Phil Francis, Superintendent of the Blue Ridge Parkway, thanked all volunteers for the 61,000 hours they had contributed to the Parkway in the last year. He said that this was critical since because of lack of funding, 25% of all Parkway positions and 33% of maintenance positions were currently unfilled. The next time a politician promises to cut your taxes, ask him or her how they plan to fund the parks and forests, and whether they had any plans to eliminate the huge backlog of maintenance work that exists in these facilities.

In addition to lunch, all volunteers got Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway tee-shirts and National Park Service Volunteer baseball caps.

Jorge Muñoz then presented long-service awards to trail maintainers. See the list.
