Looking Back....
Monday Crew work - 01/09/06
Great weather for Monday so it was the day we went out.
Location - AT - Walnut Mt. Shelter to Bluff Mt.
Work done:
Trip was to scout and perform light maintenance.
Item 447 completed
Leaves collected for Walnut Mt. privy
Lopping done along entire trail & trail to spring at Walnut Mt.
Several small trees removed with hand saw
Small amount of tread work & selected water bars cleaned
Water bar installed on trail from Walnut Mt shelter to spring
Work needed:
See items 608 & 609 (tree removal & blazing)
Additional water bars need clearing
Spring at shelter could use improvement
Trail from Shelter to spring has been redone with
heavy equipment used for logging. We installed
one new water bar but in spring additional work
may be required. At this point in time it is quite
muddy and chopped up.

Friday January 13
Today we went into the Green River Gamelands to clear the Laurel Branch trail. A crew of 15 split into two crews with two chain saws on each crew. We worked nearly nonstop cutting downed trees and limbs, and did not finish this short trail. As bad weather was predicted, we ended our day about 12:30 for some 4 hours work today. Bill Newton

Trail collapsing downhill about 10 minutes
North of Sam's Gap. Needs tread work to widen.

Friday, January 20
This Friday the Friday Pisgah crew of 14 worked 6.5 hours clearing Green River Gameland trails.
We found heavy damage due to the ice storms and winds which followed.
We split the crew into two crews with two saws each,
and cleared many blow downs along Bishop Branch and Pullham Creek, but did not finish our work.
We will return soon to complete this work. Bill

We finished up the clearing started Friday
on the MST. There were about 10 trees removed
and 6 low hanging rhodos plus lopping along
the trail
Also Don & Warren completed item 613 (trees between
Rt 74A and BRP 386).

The two CMC Friday crews combined to put 28 workers out today, (Friday January 27).
We worked the Florence tract in Gerton in support of the NC Nature Conservancy with Bonnie Millar.
