News about eNews

For the months of June through August I will be producing the biweekly eNews while the Bernsteins are on vacation. I am not as closely involved in the day-to-day activities of the club as is Danny. This means that I will need help in gathering items for the eNews. Please don't assume that if something important is happening that I know about it. Send me items for inclusion! Putting "eNews" in your email subject header will guarantee that your input will get prompt attention.

Support the Forest Service Proposal on the Tellico OHV System

The US Forest Service is seeking comments on a proposal to modify the Upper Tellico Off-Highway Vehicle Road System (OHV System).  The Forest Service proposes to close the most eroded trails and those it cannot maintain, significantly reducing the currently unmanageable size of the trail system.  The intent is to greatly reduce the large amount of runoff into the Tellico River and its tributaries and modify the system so it can be maintained without extraordinary maintenance cost. The Forest Service will need to spend millions of dollars to repair and maintain the OHV system.  The funds would come from other Forest Service programs out of a budget that has been severely cut.  Let the Forest Service know that you support the proposed action.  The deadline is July 9.

Send comments to Tusquitee District Ranger, 123 Woodland Drive, Murphy, NC 28906. Comments may also be sent via email to
