News about eNews For the months of June through August I will be producing the biweekly eNews while the Bernsteins are on vacation. I am not as closely involved in the day-to-day activities of the club as is Danny. This means that I will need help in gathering items for the eNews. Please don't assume that if something important is happening that I know about it. Send me items for inclusion! Putting "eNews" in your email subject header will guarantee that your input will get prompt attention. Photo by Becky Smucker Work-Hike on Saturday Crew (WHOS Crew) News The new Saturday trail maintenance crew is up and running. We are going out on the first and third Saturdays of each month, and are making an effort to incorporate a fair amount of hiking with our trail work. Although we will do a variety of work jobs, we plan to focus on the Shining Rock and Middle Prong Wilderness areas, which prohibit power tools and require more hiking to reach remote areas. Initially we are being trained by Bill Newton and Barth Brooker in the basics of trail maintenance. So far we have had seven new and enthusiastic members come out to work, but we could use a few more. If you are interested, even if you couldn’t be there every time, we invite you to join us this Saturday, June 7, as we scout and do some trail work in the Shining Rock Wilderness. For details contact Becky Smucker at bsmucker@charter.net. MST Saturday Workday June 21 will be the our next workday, meeting again at the Moose Cafe at 8:00 for breakfast and leaving promptly at 9:00. This will allow the Sunday and Saturday hike leaders a little more time to send in their report; Wednesday hike reports for the hike just before the eNews comes out will be published in the next eNews. So send me your news and maintenance reports by Wednesday evening at 9 P.M. before the newsletter comes out, that is, by Tuesday evening, June 3rd to Dave Wetmore dwetmore@citcom.net Include your email address at the end of your story. Thank you. I can only accept the Wednesday hike report by Wednesday evening. The CMC Calendar is meant to answer the perennial question "When is this happening again?" It is also meant to prevent conflicts between competing CMC events. Please check it often. How to join the Carolina Mountain Club ---------------------- Back to Top |
