New!! CMC Forum for members and Interested Parties

A forum software program has been installed on the CMC website. It is intended to be used by hikers and maintainers interested in communicating with each other about various related hiking and maintaining activities. Right now it is divided into 5 areas General, Hiking, 2nd Hand Gear, Challenges and Trail Maintenance. There are subdivisions for some of the areas like Hiking-Scouting and Hiking-General. Then different threads such as Hiking-Scouting-Linville Gorge hike #451 can be set up under these subdivisions. The different levels have the ability to be moderated by different moderators also different levels can be privatized so that only a certain group of people can communicate with each other such as the CMC Council.

Each person will need to register on the login page. You may use any username you want but you may want to use the same as your CMC Member User number. You will complete the questions and then the system will email you a password that you may logon with. This password may be changed later by going to the Control Panel button and changing your password.

Please fell free to make comments in the different categories and forum areas with suggestions for improvement or interests are also welcome. There is a “Forum” icon on the CMC website or click here: Forum . Have fun! Don Walton, Webmaster

Conservation

What is your vision for the National Parks?

In 2016, the National Park System will be 100 years old. What do you see for our National Parks in the next 100 years? The Department of the Interior wants to know. Please see http://www.nps.gov/2016/ and answer the questions. This is important. We live within an easy commute of three national parks, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Blue Ridge Parkway and the Carl Sandburg House. If not the members of Carolina Mountain Club, then who? The comment period ends on April 2.

The actual comment form can be found at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/commentForm.cfm?parkID=442&projectID=17892&documentId=18372

Heard on the Ground

A fan letter

Hi guys,
I and seven friends had the chance this weekend to hike the section of the AT from Sam’s Gap to Bald Mnt Shelter and back. What a wonderful hike and what a blessing your trail volunteers are, we could tell there was a great deal of work that had been completed on the trail here shortly. Thank you all for all the hard work you have done. You all are a blessing to us hikers and I hope that I have the honor of one day meeting you or at least hopefully get to try and get down and help out one day.
Keep up the wonderful job and may God bless you all and keep you safe. May your paths always be soft and the wind at you backs! Sincerely, Chris Hall On the twenty year plan!
