Trail Maintenance scheduled for this week

Bill Newton's Work Crew-Friday

This Friday we will work at Holmes State Educational Forest. We have some water bar and trail work to do there, and maybe check out a new bridge. Meet at the Holmes ranger station at 8. Remember the following week is the fish fry at the park service. As usual, please let me know if you will be out so I can plan tools. Bill

Piet & Skip's Work Crew-Friday

Folks, Back to Balsam Gap this week. We will go in at the Grassy Ridge Mine Overlook and work South. This is the same area we worked on several weeks ago, but there is plenty of work left to do. We have a number more trees to cut, so Howard, please bring your saw. There is a bunch of narrow, sloping tread that got passed by last time that needs work and plenty of rock tread past that to work on. Piet and Skip bring sledges, others bring digging tools. Asheville folks meet at exit 44 of I-40 at 8:00, Hendersonville people at Ingles at 7:20. Please let me know if you are planning to come. Several other items of interest;

1. Tom Hair is going back to Florida this week and will be staying there permanently. He will not be coming back to Hendersonville in future summers and so will not be working with us on the trail crew any more. We all wish Tom the best and hope he comes back to visit us every now and then. If you didn't get a chance to say good by to Tom last Friday, you might want to give him a call or drop him an E-Mail note.

2. As a reminder, the up-coming fish fry is a thank you from the Park Service for working on the MST trail. It will be held on October 17th at 12:00 at the Folks Art Center auditorium. I am sending in the list of folks who signed up, today. If for some reason, you didn't send me a note, and you are planning on coming, shoot me a reply E-Mail ASAP. If you already sent me a note, you don't have to send another one. Skip

Annual Blue Ridge Parkway Fish Fry

The annual Blue Ridge Parkway appreciation fish fry lunch is scheduled for Friday, October 17 at noon. The location is in the auditorium at the Folk Art Center same place as last year.

This is the Blue Ridge Parkway's way of thanking the Carolina Mountain Club trail maintainers for all of the work we do on the Mountains to Sea Trail and the other trails on Blue Ridge Parkway land.

If you have worked on the Mountains to Sea Trail or other Blue Ridge Parkway trails in the past year contact your trails supervisor and get on the reservation list. Please make your reservation by October 7.  Thank you for all you do! Don Walton

Looking Back....

Bill Newton's Work Crew-Friday

John says we did not work hard enough in Green River Game lands two weeks ago, so we have to go back and try again. But at least he has some different trails for this week. Meet again at the Cracker Barrel at 8. Please let me know if you will be out. Bill

Piet & Skip's Work Crew-Friday

Folks, This Friday we will start the big job of improving the MST trail on Mt. Mitchell. There have been about 40 RR ties dropped along the trail for steps so we will have plenty of materials to work with. There is also some lopping and other lighter tread work to do, so we should have something for everyone. Howard please bring your saw. Piet and Skip bring sledges. Others bring digging tools. Asheville folks meet at the Folk Art Center at 8:00. Hendersonville people at Ingles at 7:20. Please let me know if you are coming. Skip
