Looking Ahead.......
Bill Newton's Work Crew-Friday
The weather man says a beautiful day is coming up this Friday, so let's take advantage of it and head for the parkway. We need to check out the MST from 215 to Heywood Gap, but may only do 215 to Buckeye this week, depending on how many turn out. Can only have 10 per crew in the wilderness. If we have a large turnout, we will work another trail as well. Let me know if you will be out so I can plan the tools and second trail if necessary. Bill

Folks, The Friday bunch took a mighty swop at the MST trail last Friday, so this week we will turn our attention to the AT. The section reached from the Forest Service road at Max Patch going North toward the big bridge is reported to need work. I understand the bad section is a half mile or more up the trail from where we get on, so there will be some walking involved. The work is mostly heavy tread work including redigging side hill sections, fixing or installing new water bars and perhaps putting in some steps. Howard please bring your saw so we can cut material for steps if needed. The rest of the folks bring digging tools. The Asheville folks meet at the Home Depot at exit 44 of I-40 at 8:00. Hendersonville people at Fleming Street Ingles at 7:20. Please let me know if you are coming, as it helps with planning transportation. See you all on Friday. Skip

Folks, Well we got the trail at Firescald dedicated and hiked last Sunday, and Jack has put in 3 good weeks at Balsam Gap, so it's off to a new location this week. We will go to Big Butt (go up though Wolf Laurel development) and work the trail down including the blue blazed trail. The word is plenty of tread to be widened and many water bars and silt bars to be installed. We will need one saw to cut bars (Piet or Howard please let me know if you want to be the "saw man"), others bring digging tools. Asheville folks meet at the Forest Service office at 8:00, Hendersonville folks at Ingles at 7:20. As always, I appreciate you letting me know if you are coming so I can plan. See you all on Friday.
